Bathroom Bust

Call it nesting or complete craziness, but somehow I convinced John we needed to re-do the guest bathroom before the baby. The conversation actually went more like this.

C: I really want to re-do the bathroom before March.

J: Call around and get some quotes.

C: 2 hours later... I called, here is the quote, and they are starting demo tomorrow.

John just let out a big sigh and said let's go for it big mama! The idea of having workers in and out and attracting all kinds of dust was beyond John's comprehension, but he went with it and we haven't looked back.

To my credit, we've been talking about re-doing this bathroom since we bought the house almost three years ago.  I figured we will never get around to it if we don't do it now. It helped that friends have encouraged us to spend every last dime now while you can, because post baby when you're paying ridiculous amounts for daycare & for diapers, budgets don't usually allot for bathroom renos.

Of course the workers gave us a timeline of 5-6 days start to finish, but they failed to let us know those 5-6 days wouldn't be consecutive. We haven't seen them since the demo last week.

Here is our bathroom 3 years ago when we went under contract with the house

And here is how we lived with it for the last  3 years...

As you can see, not much has changed.

We changed out the light fixture, mirror, shower curtain, & guest towels. I had intentions of sprucing up this bathroom, but never knew what direction to take with the yellow and brown tile so we just embraced it.

The window was framed out during our master addition and it's been that way since October....{it was part of my plea to re-do the bathroom  ;)}

It's also worth mentioning that this was our only full bathroom before the addition, so the fact that we lived with it for this long & saved our pennies makes it that much more worthy of a reno.

So here it is post demo & drywall...

This is where we stand as of now. The tile is bought, vanity is purchased, and paint color chosen, so hopefully they will be back soon to move things right along.

31 Weeks!

How far along? 31 weeks.
Baby Size: ~3.5 lbs and 16 inches long. Size of a pineapple!
Total weight gain/loss: 24 total.
Maternity clothes? Yes. Loved rocking my tank-ini last weekend in Key West! (kidding in case you missed the sarcasm)
Stretch marks? No. Palmer’s everyday.
Sleep: Falling asleep is easy, but I ‘shift’ sides a couple of times a night and each time I feel like I am adjusting a concrete wall!
Best moment this week: Hearing the healthy heartbeat and having a good doctor’s appointment
Miss Anything? Nothing of note.
Movement: I feel movement when I’m up at the wee hours of the night and the occasional kicks & flutters throughout the day.
Food cravings: My latest obsession is Oreo Klondike bars. Do not buy! You will regret!
Aversions/Anything making you queasy or sick:  No.
Misc:  Went to a breastfeeding class this past weekend. Wow. Intense but informative. If I had a dime for every time she said nipple…!

Key West Getaway

We snuck away MLK weekend for a 'babymoon'...or the boys baby boondoggle, as frequently called it. The Alias' were given a bad @$$ house for the week and graciously invited us along.

We did lots of biking, lounging, and most of all e.a.t.i.n.g. The comments from locals and tourist were hilarious at the sight of three pregnant girls all waddling along Duvall Street. We may or may not have gotten a 'mooooo' from a singer....forget his short jorts, 80's mullet, and fag swag!

Our only plan for the weekend was not to have a plan. We embraced the independence & lack of schedule, and constantly reminded ourselves this would be one of the last little hoorays as a married couple.

Here it is in pics...

Amazing house. Back yard pool.

View from back of the house.
Only rule from the homeowners: Must leave doors and windows open at all times.

Mode of transporation all weekend

Mama with her non-alc coors light.

Hubs celebrating over lunch after he got word his new job is official!

We biked to the Southernmost Point in the US.
And stood in line with the other tourist to get our pic made.

Boys enjoying a day buzz and pool time

Girls biked to Mallory Square for virgin daiquiris and the sunset.

Girls toured Ernest Hemingway's house. I feel like we could ace Hemingway Trivia after our little tour. The things you do on vacation when you pregnant & not drinking!

Such a fun trip! Thanks again to the Alias' for making it happen.

If you're wondering what in H#%$LL John is wearing, not to worry, you're not alone. Our first night there he was so proud of his purchase... a tourist sweatshirt to 'embrace the culture and fit in with the locals'. Well, the weather turned out to be slightly chilly most days & nights and this was his only appropriate attire. He was thrilled!

30 Weeks...10 to go!

See what a goods night rest and a vacation in a bad @$$ house will do for a pic!! Other than the chunk cheeks (can't help genetics!) so glad not to have puffy under eyes.

How far along? 30 weeks. So hard to believe only 10 more to go!
Baby Size: 3lbs.  New brain development everyday.
Total weight gain/loss: I’ll find out again at the doc later this week
Maternity clothes? Yes & occasional 'normal' tops & dresses.
Stretch marks? No.
Sleep: Once or twice nightly wake ups for position change or potty, but other than that sleeping well.
Best moment this week: Going on vacation with two other pregnant couples. Hilarious the comments we got when people would see 3 pregnant girls biking or walking together!
Miss Anything? Nothing of note. I actually may have discovered I like pina coladas better without the floater on top!
Movement: Very early in the morning and right before bed.
Food cravings: Wayyy overly indulged in lots of vacation food. You name it, we ate it!
Aversions/Anything making you queasy or sick:  No.
Misc:  I have been waking up the past few nights with horrible, sharp calf pains. I’ve started drinking a glass of OJ each morning for extra calcium.

We are 16 days into the new year and I'm bringing back 2012. I keep delaying a recap of our Christmas trip & the holidays; for whatever reason it seems like a daunting task, so I'm going to put it off even longer.

I'm putting off a weekend recap post, yet I thought it would be fun to look back over the past year and compile a list of highlights of 2012.
